MIPI D-PHY and C-PHY Conformance Test Solution
04 May 2017 -Keysight now offers a transmitter and receiver test solution based on the MIPI Alliance’s D-PHY v2.0 and v2.1 specification and C-PHY v1.0 and v1.1 specification and conformance test suite (CTS). The solution also supports MIPI Alliance’s system power management interface (SPMI) specification protocol decoder for battery-operated Internet of Things (IoT) and mobile devices.
New PXI-based 8-Channel Oscilloscope
03 May 2017 - National Instruments (NI) announced a new 100 MHz, 8-channel oscilloscope that builds on NI’s expertise in high-density and software-designed instruments in PXI. The new PXIe-5172 oscilloscope includes a user-programmable FPGA. Engineers can use LabVIEW to customize this oscilloscope’s firmware, such as adding in-line signal processing or advanced triggering.
TiePie added Crankshaft Angle I/O to Oscilloscope Software
12 April 2017 - TiePie engineering announced that Version 1.36 of the Multi Channel oscilloscope software is now available for download. A demo version is also available, which can be used without connecting measuring instruments. For automotive purposes a Crankshaft angle I/O was added. In modern engines, usually a crankshaft sensor is present which generates a periodic signal with a number of cycles per revolution of the engine.
1 GHz Oscilloscope with 12.1" Touchscreen
12 April 2017 – Teledyne LeCroy introduces the WaveSurfer 510 oscilloscope, providing 1 GHz bandwidth and 10 GS/s sample rate simultaneously on all 4 channels at a price of $12,900. The WaveSurfer 510 combines the MAUI with OneTouch user interface with powerful waveform processing, in addition to advanced math, measurement, and debug tools, to quickly analyze and find the root cause of problems. The 12.1" touch-screen display of the WaveSurfer 510 is the largest in its class and makes viewing waveform abnormalities fast and easy.
Siglent launches new cost-effective Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope
10 April 2017 - SIGLENT’s new SDS1000X-E Series Super Phosphor Oscilloscope is available in one bandwidth, 200 MHz. It has a maximum sample rate of 1 GSa/s and a standard record length of 14 Mpts. For ease-of-use, the most commonly used functions can be accessed with its user-friendly front panel design.
First 1000Base-T1 Compliance Test Solution
06 April 2017 - Automotive Ethernet has established itself as a standard communications structure. All major manufacturers now depend on this cost-efficient solution for fast data transmission in motor vehicles. With the new IEEE 1000Base-T1 standard, the success story continues. Rohde & Schwarz is the first T&M equipment manufacturer to offer a 1000Base-T1 compliance test solution for the R&S RTO digital oscilloscope.
12-Bit High Definition, 1 GHz Oscilloscope Platforms features 10x Oversampling
04 April 2017 - Teledyne LeCroy introduces the HDO4000A, HDO6000A, HDO8000A, and MDA800A analog and mixed-signal oscilloscopes. These four high-definition oscilloscope product lines range from 200 MHz – 1 GHz bandwidth and utilize 12-bit HD4096 technology. This technology arrived in 2012 and today’s announcement takes these ground-breaking products to new levels of measurement capability. HDO-A oscilloscopes now automatically ensure optimal display of acquired waveforms to the instruments’ full rated bandwidth.

A Comparison between Oscilloscopes and Spectrum Analyzers
Whether it is for a land survey searching for minerals on Earth, or for a space exploration in search of alien life forms, the analysis of any signal boils down to looking at its time and frequency information. While an oscilloscope displays a signal with respect to time, a spectrum analyzer shows it with respect to frequency. Both of these tools are very important in any signal analysis application. This article explains the difference between oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer using examples.

A simple method to verify the bandwidth of your probe
In oscilloscopes or oscilloscope probes, bandwidth is a measure of the width of a range of frequencies measured in Hertz. Specifically, bandwidth is specified as the frequency at which a sinusoidal input signal is attenuated to 70.7 percent of its original amplitude, also known as the -3 dB point. Most oscilloscope companies design the scope/probe response to be as flat as possible throughout its specified frequency range, and most customers simply rely on the specified bandwidth of the oscilloscope or oscilloscope probes, wondering if they are indeed getting the bandwidth performance at the probe tip. Now you can use these step-by-step instructions to simply measure and verify the bandwidth of your probe with an oscilloscope you may already have.
